BURNING DOWN THE BAUHAUS

Representing pared down and stylized versions of flowers, vines and leaves based loosely on Jugendstil (“young style”), a German art movement that was a spin-off of the larger Art Nouveau movement in Britain at the turn of the century, these works combine botanical references with linear curves with geometric lines. My interest in Art Nouveau traces back to my teen years, stemming from my German heritage, a love of plant forms, and a newfound interest in blacksmithing.
